Development of Enterprise Application Systems

Overview

The development of business application systems is one of the core tasks of business informatics. The module provides in-depth knowledge of the business development environment, which encompasses processes, methods, tools and standards to support the systematic, planned development and operation of application systems. The module is divided into a lecture and an exercise in which the lecture material is systematically deepened.

The objective of the course is to equip participants with the following knowledge and skills:

  • Knowledge of development paradigms and system architectures
  • Knowledge of process models for development
  • Knowledge and ability to apply development methods and tools
  • Knowledge of standards and standard parts for development
  • Knowledge and ability to apply methods for project management and quality assurance

The course requires basic knowledge of the structure and components of business information systems, as taught, for example, in the module Introduction to Business Information Systems (ISM-EidWI-B).

The course has a workload of 180 hours and is assessed with 6 ECTS points, which can be earned in a written, 90-minute exam.

All information and documents for the course can be found in the VC course IIS-EBAS-B: Entwicklung betrieblicher Anwendungssysteme.

Lecture

The lecture provides knowledge about the operational development environment, which provides processes, methods, tools and standards to support the systematic, planned development and operation of application systems. The course focuses on the following content:

  • General structure and types of application systems
  • Development paradigms and architectures of application systems
  • Procedure models to support the development process
  • Methods for the creation of business process and data models
  • Methods for system design
  • Methods for project management and quality assurance
  • Methods for the operation of application systems

Lecturers: Prof. Dr. Sven Overhage

Frequency: WS and SS

Hours per Week: 2

    Exercise

The exercise systematically deepens the knowledge taught in the lecture through exercises, which are worked on by the students in small groups and then discussed in the plenum. The exercise focuses on the following tasks:

    • Reproduction tasks to recapitulate the lecture content
    • Transfer tasks to apply the knowledge taught
    • Complex use cases and case studies
