Invitation to the poppy bee excursion near Kemmern
In Kemmern in the district of Bamberg, an impressive bee species is causing great excitement. One of the largest known populations of the rare poppy bee (Osmia papaveris) can be found in the fields north of Kemmern.
After last year's poppy bee excursion in the Didactics of Natural Sciences was met with great enthusiasm by the students, this year we would like to give other members of the university the opportunity to learn about the fascinating way of life of poppy bees. In addition to the poppy bee, many other interesting and quite rare species live in the small-structured fields of Kemmern, so we hope to be able to observe not only numerous poppy bees but also the rare spider wasp and grasshopper sand wasp building their nests.
Further information on the poppy bee and last year's excursion can be found here.
