Studying Strategic Communication/Communication Analysis in Bamberg
Are you interested in communication and media? Do you want to know what decisive significance they have in our everyday life but also for society as a whole? Communication studies researches how our communication and information society is evolving. We provide you with the necessary background knowledge and methodological skills to examine current developments in the media world.
We are an interdisciplinary subject in between humanities and social sciences. In our research focused modules, you will gather hands-on experience how to develop and manage a research project from start to finish or how to solve special theoretical and/or methodological research problems.
Structure of the Master’s Degree Communication/Communication Analysis
The course of study is divided in three main sections. The first section (“Gemeinsame Module”, 40 ECTS points) consists of five modules (G-I – G-V). Within these introductory modules, you will acquire solid basic knowledge of Germany’s media system, as well as important research methods and theories.
The second section (“Schwerpunkte”, 30 ECTS points) allows you to either focus on Strategic Communication (SK-I – SK-IV) or on Communication Analysis (KA-I – KA-IV) as your main area of studies. The modules in Strategic Communication (SK-I – SK-IV) focus research on communication and public relations. The modules in Communication Analysis focus on a variety of research areas, from journalism studies to market research and online communication.
The third section (“Erweiterungsbereich”, 20 ECTS points) enables you to choose modules from fields of study other than Communication Science. Depending on your interests, you can choose from a wide range of subjects within the humanities and other faculties

Your Qualifications
The Master's degree programme in Strategic Communication/Communication Analysis is theoretically and methodologically challenging, therefore you must meet some requirements before you can enrol. You will find the necessary requirements here (in German): You can only begin your studies in the winter semester.
In addition to the necessary bachelor’s degree, you should have the desire to learn more about the function and significance of media and communication for and in society. An interest in humanities and social science issues and methods is particularly relevant here.

Prospective students who have a foreign nationality and a foreign university entrance qualification must apply to the Enrolment Office for a Master's degree programme at the University of Bamberg. The language of instruction in Communication Science is German. Before you can enrol and begin your studies, you must have reached at least German level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). As admission to our course of study is restricted, you must submit the required proof of German language knowledge before the application deadline.
