§ 1 Institutional achnoring

(1) The Bamberger Zentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz/Bamberg Center for Artificial Intelligence (BaCAI) is a central scientific institution of the University of Bamberg for the coordination of AI research activities at the university and for the representation of AI research in national and international networks.

(2) The central aim of the center is to promote the development of Artificial Intelligence methods at the University of Bamberg.

§ 2 Duties

(1) The center promotes research in the field of artificial intelligence and its transfer in cooperation with subjects from the university's key research areas.

(2) The center promotes cooperation with institutions and companies as well as with national and international research in the field of AI.

(3) The center is a contact point for consulting needs related to concepts and application of AI methods, which is aimed at all members of the University of Bamberg.

§ 3 Members

(1) The members of the center are the holders of AI professorships, AI chairs and AI junior professorships, supplemented by researchers from the fields of the methodological foundations of AI and researchers working on AI applications.

(2) In accordance with the cross-sectional function of the Faculty of Information Systems and Applied Computer Science (WIAI), the AI professorships have strong interdisciplinary links to all other faculties of the University of Bamberg, which are implemented through cooperation between the BaCAI and the Center for Innovative Applications of Computer Science (ZIAI), which appoints representatives for the BaCAI from among its members.

(3) Members of the center can be all professors, junior professors, private lecturers, postdoctoral researchers and doctoral candidates working at the University of Bamberg who are conducting research in the field of Artificial Intelligence.

(4) The members aim to cooperate closely on a regular basis.

(5) Membership is effected by means of a written declaration to the management body; in cases of doubt, the general meeting decides.

§ 4 General Meeting

(1) The general meeting elects the board and decides on its proposals for the center's work program.

(2) The general meeting meets at the request of the board or at the request of at least one third of the members, but at least once each semester.

(3) The general meeting decides by a simple majority of those present; delegation of votes is possible.

§ 5 Board

(1) At least three professors and one member from the group of academic and artistic staff and doctoral students are elected to head the center for a period of four years.

(2) A representative from the group of professors is elected as Executive Director.

(3) The other members of the board may deputize for the Executive Director as necessary and by arrangement.

§ 6 Ethical issues of AI research

(1) The topic of ethics in Artificial Intelligence is an integral part of the center's research.

(2) All activities at the center respect the DFG's guidelines for good scientific practice and the ethics guidelines of the German Informatics Society.

(3) In cases where there are doubts about compliance with ethical principles, an opinion is requested from members of the Ethics Council of the University of Bamberg who are not members of the center.

§ 7 Evaluation of the center

(1) The center is evaluated by two external assessors at intervals of no more than five years.

(2) An annual report must be submitted to the university management in preparation for the evaluation.

§ 8 Termination of membership

Membership of the center ends upon leaving the University of Bamberg or at the member's own request.
